Which Slimbook packages are necessary for optimal performance on EVO 14" (EVO14-A8) with Manjaro?

Hello Slimbook Community,


I recently purchased a Slimbook EVO 14" (model EVO14-A8) and have installed Manjaro Linux KDE Edition on it. I would like to ensure that my laptop is running optimally with all the necessary Slimbook-specific software packages.


I've found the following Slimbook packages in the Manjaro extra repository:


  1. slimbookintelcontroller 1.0beta-2 - Application for the performance management of Intel processors

  2. slimbookamdcontroller 0.4.5-2 - Application for the performance management of AMD processors

  3. python-slimbook 1.18.0-1 - Python bindings for libslimbook and some extra goodies for Slimbook python based apps

  4. libslimbook 1.18.2-1 - Core functionality for Slimbook apps

  5. slimbookbattery 4.0.9beta-1 - Battery optimization application for portable devices

  6. slimbook-keyboard-dkms 0.2.8-2 - Keyboard module for Slimbook Essential model (and laptops with similar keyboards)

  7. slimbook-rgb-keyboard 0.5.3-1 - Utility to manage color and brightness of Slimbook RGB keyboard

  8. slimbook-qc71-dkms 0.4.3.0-1 - Slimbook service implementation and adaptation of pobrn/qc71_laptop

  9. slimbook_service 0.8.4-2 - Service for Slimbook laptops


I know that I don't have an RGB keyboard and that my model is equipped with an AMD processor. So 1, 7, 8 are obviously not required. Also, 3 and 4 are likely to be dependencies.


Could you please advise which of these packages are necessary or recommended for my specific model to ensure optimal performance, battery life, and functionality? I'm particularly interested in knowing:


  • Which packages are essential for my hardware configuration?

  • Are there any packages that might conflict with each other?

  • Are there any specific configuration steps I should take after installing the recommended packages?

Good afternoon,

For the EVO models, the qc71 package should be installed for some functionalities to work, as well as the yt6801 package to use networking, the core packages (slimbook_service, libslimbook and python_slimbook) should also be installed

The AMDController package is used to change the TDP of the CPU, however it is not needed unless you want to change the TDP values

As for the packages that have conflicts, slimbookbattery conflicts with TLP power management and with new desktop environments power rules, the package per se is deprecated and it's not advised to be installed

After installing the packages, it should work out of the box without any extra configuration needed
